I am very thankful that God has showed us we can impact lives on our campuses! (Simone)
I am glad to be part of this army of God...and that I met a group like you on campus! May He help us to reach out to lost souls/ to win university students for Christ. (Jonathan)
I thank God for what He has done. He is able to do much more! I am dreaming of our campus being transformed, totally impacted by Jesus' love! (André)

These are some examples of statements by Christian students on some of the20 college campuses in Manaus where more than 84,000 students study. Some f you will remember that about 18 months ago Priscila Cabrera came to work with us and focus on reaching these students for Christ as part of our overall prayer and focus to see Manaus transformed by the grace of God for the glory of God. Our prayer is that we would see each population segment or group of this city transformed. Over the past year, she has been integral in helping an initial group get started on the largest campus in the city. She has helped identify and train leaders. Those student leaders have within the last month multiplied from 1 group meeting on 1 campus to 4 groups meeting on 3 campuses (the fourth group is on a separate part of the first campus)! Praise God for this growth and multiplication. We are only at the beginning though!

We are thankful for the Columbia-Metro Baptist Association in Columbia, SC who accepted this challenge and has provided Priscila the necessary support to live and work here with us. Their support for her is now ending but we are praying that the Lord would allow her to stay at least until we return from our upcoming stateside assignment/furlough (more on that below). If you would like to know more about Priscila's ministry or receive her current email, please email her at
priscila_cabrera@yahoo.com. You can check out some of her pictures, including of the univeristy students at <http://www.flickr.com/photos/priscilacabrera/> And please join with us in praying that the Lord would make it possible for her to remain at least through June

NOW, about stateside assignment. Yes, for only the 2nd time (or is it 3rd) since 1998, we will eat Thanksgiving dinner (or rather dinners!) in South Carolina with family! We are scheduled to leave Manaus on Nov. 19 andarrive at the airport in Columbia, SC about 4 p.m. on the 20th. To the thousands who plan to come see us at the airport, come early to get good parking. Okay, yes I am joking. But it reminds me of a story about missionaries I was once told. When they come back on their first furlough, all of their friends and church members, and of course family, are at the airport waiting on them. When they come back on their second furlough, their family is waiting on them at the airport. When they come back on their third furlough, they have to catch a cab home! This is our second furlough so I guess we have a ride!

We would appreciate your prayers as we are trying to finish everything well and pack and say goodbye to dear friends and arrange for someone to take care of the house and the dogs, and . . . . OK, you get the idea. Pray. We need it! Seriously, there is much to be done; many goodbyes to be said so pray with us. (Have I already mentioned that?)

We are scheduled to speak November 25th at Spring Valley Baptist Church in Columbia, SC, December 2 at Beulah Baptist where my dad (Ken's dad) is now pastoring, and December 9 at Mt. Tabor Baptist. We will then spend some vacation weeks before traveling to Richmond to attend a training our mission is holding in early January. We hope to take the children to Washington, D.C. afterwards. Next Ken returns to Manaus with some pastors from Miami for a quick trip in late January. Beginning in February we will be speaking in a number of missions celebrations and churches in SC, one in NC and one in GA. We will do our best to communicate several times over the 6 months of our furlough.

Our address will be 656 Horses Neck Road, Swansea, SC 29160. Our phone number there is 803-568-8780. Along with our current email address, you might also try ken.frederick@yahoo.com. We hope to see you when we are in the US.

As we conclude this term of service, please know that we praise God for you and that you remain such a crucial member of the team here.

AND NOW, a final thought. Last year was a record breaking year for the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering. You gave over 150 million dollars which all went to international missions. That offering this year will provide about 51% of our mission's total budget. It will provide everything from salaries for missionaries, medical care for missionaries (as you know, we have been often thankful for this reality), houses and vehicles for missionaries, Bibles to give to people without them (this term on more than one occasion we had the chance to give a Bible to someone who had never owned one), Bible studies, evangelistic tracts, JESUS films, training materials for pastors and leaders . . . . and the list goes on. This year's goal is 165 million dollars. Yes that is a lot. But then think about the fact that Southern Baptists report about 16 million members and that is less than $10.50 per member, yes ten dollars and fifty cents. Do you want to know another number? In Manaus alone we estimate upwards of 1.3 million people are lost at this moment. And this is in a city where the gospel has been available at least at some level for a century. Ponder the lostness of this world. Ponder the billions of dollars that will be spent on disposable presents this Christmas. For me, thinking about the size of the task helps put the 165 million in better perspective. We truly praise God for each of you and for our SBC churches as you faithfully give to the Lottie Moon offering this year.

May God richly bless each of you.
